As the summer winds down – and I consider it summer all the way through September!! – I am contemplating my favorite books from my summer reading list.

I am still finishing up a couple of these, but I am confident in which books I can whole heartedly recommend. I wrote a blog post on all of these (no spoilers!!), so if you want to know more about any of the books, click on the link that says “Read my post here.”

First on my list is the book I read on my epic summer vacation.  This is a fictionalized version of an affair F. Scott Fitzgerald had with a gossip columnist. So this is a good read for those of you who enjoy literary history and like to speculate on literary figures.

Another Side of Paradise: A Novel by Sally Koslow

Next up is a book with family drama and mystery that kept my attention and kept me guessing by the author of The Woman in Cabin 10:

The Death of Mrs. Westawayby Ruth Ware

This next book is not at all what I expected by the title. It was a solid endearing read about finding joy after tragedy. I think most readers would enjoy this book.

How to Walk Away: A Novelby Kathrine Center

This one follows two strong women characters a generation apart trying to find balance between personal lives and career ambition.

The Subway Girls: A Novel by Susie Orman Schnall

If I had to pick a favorite among all of these it may be this book about wine which also turned out to be WWII historical fiction, a favorite genre of mine. And the main character is studying to be a M.W. – masters in wine -which is a designation only held by about 300 people in the world. The book has mystery and romance. It really has it all, and I learned  a lot about wine as well.

The Lost Vintage: A Novelby Ann Mah

One of those books where I got soooo annoyed with the characters, this is sill a book I wanted my friends to read.

Our House by Louise Candlish

The final book I am going to recommend became even more relevant recently. John McCain served his country honorably.

The Restless Wave: Good Times, Just Causes, Great Fights, and Other Appreciations

Let me know if you enjoy any of these books.

BUT…as good as all these book were, my favorite reads of the summer were not initially on my summer reading list. I am still surprised myself about what I most enjoyed reading this summer. This will be the topic of my next post!! And after that I will be previewing books for the Fall. So check back soon!
