Last month I published a post on books set in libraries. I didn’t expect to be adding to the list so soon but I just did:
The Midnight Library: A Novel by Matt Haig
Nora is not happy with her life and is regretting many decisions that could have put her in better place. The Midnight Library is where she can make things right, with the chance to live out every decision she regrets and she how it ends up.
Between life and death there is a library,’ she said. ‘And within that library, the shelves go on for ever. Every book provides a chance to try another life you could have lived. To see how things would be if you had made other choices…Would you have done anything different, if you had the chance to undo your regrets?
I personally don’t have a huge amount of regrets but I do think about/obsess about the direction even the smallest decisions can send us in. I found this book entertaining and fascinating for that reason. I did notice that for the purposes of the story, Nora is someone who could have been a lot more things that the normal person!!?? (A rock star, Olympic athlete, or iceberg scientist…) But I found it thought provoking and recommend it to anyone who is feeling stuck, having regrets, or is in a good place and just likes to ponder parallel universes.
