Earlier this summer my family visited the magnificent Acadia National Park. I am obviously not an expert on Acadia after only 4 days there but I want to share some of my family‘s favorite things (with 2 teenagers!).
The best campsite ever

We have been RVing for 5 years including a few cross country trips and many more local trips. I love planning and trying to find the perfect campsite. Our campsite in Bar Harbor was my favorite ever (and the most expensive.). We were right on the ocean with our own private rock beach and view of low tide/high tide. This was at Bar Harbor KOA.
Our favorite family activity – no complaining!
To avoid crowds in Acadia during the summer, you have to go hiking very early or later in the day. We also found that a light rain is a great opportunity to go and had a very nice, uncrowded hike on the very popular Ocean Path because we decided (there was some complaining about this!) that we would just get a little wet.
The hiking was great but another activity was our favorite: E-bikes on the Carriage Roads. Even for the Teens – No complaining!

We rented E-bikes from Acadia Ebike Adventures. Note they won’t rent to ages under 14. The carriage roads are just for bikers and walkers, but there aren’t that many hikers because of so few entry points. Although we saw other bikers, we were mostly alone for mile after mile of beautiful scenery, including lakes, vistas, forests. We biked 27 miles! And we are not really bikers!
For a break during the day we had lunch at Jordon Pond House (reservations needed). When I saw people hiking around Jordon Pond House (which I’m sure is a great hike) I remember thinking “I’m so glad to be on my bike.”
Our favorite dinner

We went to Bar Harbor with the expectation we would have lobster every day and we did. We also had the incorrect assumption that lobster would be cheaper there because it’s so abundant. Nope. A lobster roll (4 oz) anywhere was $32-40. But after eating at several places my favorite atmosphere was The Travelin’ Lobster (the location on ME-102).
Ghost Tour afficinados
As I’ve blogged before my family loves ghost tours. We’ve been on around 10 at this point. The Bar Harbor tour falls somewhere in the middle of the rankings but it was an enjoyable evening. We used American Ghost Walks Bar Harbor.

What I was reading
Because this is a book blog I should mention the book I finally finished during the 12 days of driving and some relaxing: The Winds of War by Henry Wouk. This has to be the most epic WWII historical fiction that exists. I’m currently reading the second book (multibooking of course) so I’ll probably post on both of them in the future.
