I am writing today about another book that I managed to read in a little more than 24 hours:

The One by John Marrs

The book’s premise: A DNA test has been developed to match you with your perfect romantic partner. A reader follows five separate stories as characters meet and fall for their “matches” received from the test.

“If a DNA swab could find your soulmate, would you take the test? This smart story proves that even with science behind it, the course of true love never runs smooth.”

First of all, this book is a bit out of my usual genres and my comfort zone; one of the story lines was gruesome. I added it to my spring reading list for some variety because as many of you know, I tend to stick to historical and literary fiction.

At first I was confused with so many different characters and also trying to keep track of their matches. But after the second or third cycle I had it, so keep with it even though it may be confusing at first.

I raced through this book; I literally could not put it down and spent most of one day reading it. The five stories are all gripping in their own ways. There is so much to think about regarding benefits and complications of technology. The author did a great job beyond the concept, writing plot twists I did not see coming.

A couple of months ago I wrote about another book I read in just one day; ironically that one was also about DNA although a memoir.

If you are looking for a entertaining, crazy book to lose yourself in for awhile, here it is. Also you’ll want to read it before Netflix releases a new series based on this book and everyone is talking about it!
