I want to share my favorite travel books. These are the books I browse through over and over to plan and dream about vacations.

If you read this blog often you already know that I love planning vacations. And because the actual vacation usually includes driving and/or flying, and relaxing, vacations and BOOKS go so well together.

Related post: My four book vacation.

Most recently I wrote about trips to Jamaica and Memphis.

I love reading travel books, and this is one of my favorite sections in the library; I always have a couple of books borrowed from this section! But these books I’m listing below, I actually own, and I use them again and again.

50 States, 5000 Ideas

My husband got me this book as a gift; I use it when I’m headed to a certain state to make sure I don’t miss anything great.

Thanks to this book we stayed at First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach.

Where Should We Camp Next?

We are an RV family and take at least one major “camping” trip each year. This book has proven itself to contain the types of campgrounds we like. But it’s not only about campgrounds it is about lodging experiences that are more based around nature. So for each state there is at least one place where you can rent a RV, treehouse or something else cool for a different experience.

1000 Places to See Before You Die

This book is a bit overwhelming but it’s fun to browse through to get ideas. It’s a good mix of scenery, landmarks, cities, and cultural destinations.

Wanderlust

This was another gift from my husband and I love this book for getting ideas and dreaming. Lots of it is kind of far-fetched for me at this point since I still have a job and we travel by motorhome. It organizes amazing places all over the world into different categories, such as rivers, pubs, buildings, museums, bike rides, train rides. Wow now I’m actually just wanting to look through this again right now! This is larger book. It makes great gift or a coffee table book.

World Travel: An Irreverent Guide  by Anthony Bourdain

This isn’t the most practical book either and it isn’t what it was supposed to be due to the untimely death of Bourdain prior to publishing but I still love this book for planning, dreaming, and also to make sure I’m not going to miss somewhere really cool in a place I am already going.

Sharing this list and looking at and thinking about these books right now makes me want to browse through them all again!
